Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment

Phase One: Early Treatment (Ages 6–10)

Phase One focuses on correcting jaw growth and bite issues while a child still has a mix of baby and permanent teeth.

Benefits of Phase One Treatment

  • Creates space for incoming permanent teeth

  • Reduces risk of trauma to protruding teeth

  • Improves speech and chewing function

  • May reduce need for tooth extractions later

Resting Period

After Phase One, your child enters a supervised resting phase where we monitor growth and allow permanent teeth to erupt naturally. No active appliances are typically worn during this time.

Phase Two: Comprehensive Treatment

Once most permanent teeth have erupted, Phase Two begins to precisely align teeth and finalize bite correction using braces or clear aligners.

Goal: Achieve a healthy, functional, and beautiful smile that lasts a lifetime.

Limited Orthodontic Treatment

Limited orthodontic treatment focuses on correcting minor alignment issues rather than full bite correction. This option is ideal for patients with:

  • Mild crowding or spacing

  • Slight tooth misalignment

  • Cosmetic concerns

  • Relapse after previous orthodontic treatment

This targeted approach is often faster and more affordable than full orthodontic care.

Dentofacial Orthopedics

Dentofacial orthopedics guides jaw growth and facial development, most commonly in growing children. Using specialized appliances, we can correct jaw discrepancies early and improve facial balance.

Surgical Orthodontics

Forsus™

The Forsus Fatigue Resistant Device is an alternative to headgear which promotes growth in adolescents, helping to eliminate excessive overbites, improve the fit of teeth, and possibly prevent the need for jaw surgery.

Elastics (Rubber Bands)

Wearing elastics (or rubber bands) improves the fit of your upper and lower teeth. Wear rubber bands as instructed, and remember that the rubber bands work far more efficiently if they’re worn as prescribed.

Palatal Expander

The palatal expander “expands” (or widens) your upper jaw by putting gentle pressure on your upper molars each time an adjustment is made. Your orthodontist will instruct you about when and how to adjust your expander. When you achieve the desired expansion, you will wear the appliance for several months to solidify the expansion and to prevent regression.

Retainers

Retainers may be removable or fixed. They hold your teeth in their new, correct positions after your teeth have been straightened. Your orthodontist will instruct you on how to care for your retainer and about the duration of the wear. Wearing your retainer as directed is crucial to prevent regression of your treatment.

Separators & Spacers

Separators are little rubber doughnuts that may be placed between your teeth to push them apart so that orthodontic bands may be placed during your next appointment. The separators will be removed before we place the bands. Separators do not mix well with sticky foods, toothpicks, or floss.
